ADT Debuts First Line of Sensormatic® Ultra•Max® Deactivators Compatible with Retail Scanners from Three Leading Manufacturers
27 February 2008

ADT, Europe’s leading provider of electronic fire and security solutions, introduces a new series of Sensormatic® Ultra•Max® integrated scanner and electronic article surveillance (EAS) deactivation capabilities that interoperate with checkout scanners from three leading manufacturers - Datalogic®, Metrologic and NCR - at the EuroShop event in Germany this week.

The scanning/deactivation combination is ideal for large retailers worldwide that want to boost both checkout efficiency and loss prevention with a single, high-performance yet cost-effective solution. This new line incorporates superior Ultra•Max® acousto-magnetic technology into each of the manufacturers’ feature-rich checkout scanners to enhance point of sale (POS) productivity while increasing the effectiveness of loss prevention programmes.

Key advantages of the genuine Sensormatic® Ultra•Max® integrated scanning/deactivation solution include:
• High performance deactivation utilising a unique antenna configuration to produce a multiple-plane deactivation zone that is compatible to the scanner read range
• Enhanced productivity to deliver high throughput deactivation and high-speed scanning to improve front-end checkout efficiencies by reducing multiple attempts to scan protected merchandise
• Addresses employee theft with scan-enable functionality that will limit collusion by allowing deactivation only after a valid barcode is scanned
• The scanner is field-upgradeable, offering retailers the ability to embrace integrated solutions today or to upgrade the EAS-ready scanner in the future

“This convergence of scanning and EAS deactivation technologies is a trend that benefits retailers and their customers,” cited Drew Nathanson, Practice Director for Venture Development Corporation’s AIDC, RFID, and Retail Automation division. “The combined development effort between ADT and leading POS scanner manufacturers to bring an integrated solution that speeds up checkout, while combating theft, demonstrates how cooperation can improve the overall value of each respective technology.”

Designed with features important to European retailers, the Sensormatic® Ultra•Max® integrated scanning/deactivation solution is the first to optimise efficiencies while meeting retailers’ number one request for integrated EAS solutions at the point of sale, according to John Smith, Vice President of Retail Sales for ADT Europe, Middle East and Africa.

“Working in concert with the three leading scanning manufacturers enabled ADT to provide more efficient all-in-one EAS scanning solutions,” Mr Smith said. “These solutions cover a large percentage of the European installed base of retailers and offer deactivation reliability and performance enhanced with a new antenna array that efficiently deactivates Ultra•Max® protected merchandise while maintaining integrity and efficiency of the checkout process.”

ADT offers a complete suite of electronic security and operational tools for retailers around the world and serves 8 of the top 10 global retailers.
