ADT Collaborates With Spanish University to Attract New TalentOn 31st March, our colleagues in Spain took part in a successful recruitment activity with one of the biggest universities in Madrid, Universidad Juan Carlos I. In line with our Diversity & Inclusion, the aim was to identify and attract talented individuals with international backgrounds, and especially female talent for the areas dominated by men. Despite the current economic downturn where talented new hires are harder to find in most industries, the response was very positive. In total, we received 45 CVs on the day from candidates with international and multicultural backgrounds, 51% of which were females. Most candidates came from Engineering, IT and Business Administration backgrounds. The event was a great opportunity for us to approach talented candidates and promote our company as a diverse and interesting place to work. Our Spanish team were very pleased with the outcome and are hoping to receive more CVs through our website.
Spanish Employees Get Together for Summer BBQOn Friday 1st July, ADT Spain organised an employee barbecue in the garden of our Las Rozas office in Madrid. This was the first in a series of social events our Spanish colleagues are planning to host in the coming months to reduce barriers between departments and facilitate relationship-building between different ADT employees. All the necessary elements for the barbecue were provided by ADT with the food and drinks being prepared by the employees through team effort; they created eight teams and each one was responsible for bringing along their specialties to share with their colleagues. The best potato omelette and dessert were recognised in a competition by a judging panel made up of employees. To keep up the fun atmosphere, the teams decided to end the day with a water gun fight. When asked about the event, Elena Portela, ADT Spain, said, “It was fun and a great opportunity to socialise with my colleagues. Everybody enjoyed it very much.”
German Employees Enjoy Team Activity With a ‘Technical Giant’Every year on 1st May, ADT colleagues from the region East in Germany organise a team activity. This year, the event involved a bike ride combined with a visit to the ‘F60’ in Lauchhammer, one of the world’s largest overburden conveyer bridges. The ADT employees along with their families and friends, started off their bike ride early in the morning on a sunny day. 20 km later they reached the F60 where, after a short picnic break, the group was given a 1.4km guided tour through the giant steel construction. When they reached the peak of the bridge at 75 meters they were rewarded with fantastic views. After cycling for a few more miles and enjoying a barbecue with live music in a rustic beer garden, the group caught a train back to Berlin. “It was a wonderful day, perfectly organised, as always, with loads of fun and cheerfulness. We have already started planning our next ‘1st May’ event”, said one of the participants. For more information about the bridge, visit: http://www.f60.de/ and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overburden_Conveyor_Bridge_F60 ![]() Swiss General Manager Retirement Celebrated in Large PartyOn 1st June 2011, Rudolf Zobrist, who had been General Manager of Switzerland for many years, retired and handed over Tyco Fire & Integrated Solutions (Schweiz) AG to his successor Werner Krüdewagen. Over the last years, Rudolf has played a pivotal role in the business, intensively fostering sound relationships with customers and suppliers and also implementing various acquisitions and integrations with great success. The business grew continuously and the number of employees trebled under his management. His well-deserved retirement was celebrated on 9th June 2011 with a large tent party by the side of Walensee, lake, near our Swiss Head Office. The celebration was enjoyed by all employees, who were spoiled with a DJ, fine food and exciting table football matches. Rudolf was thanked with speeches from the CER region and CE management and, in addition, the new CEO, Werner, was given a warm welcome. The Swiss team are confident Werner is an extremely competent successor with excellent industry and market knowledge, and they look forward to working with him. ![]() Italian Employees Put on Their Rugby Gear for Team Building ActivityOn 9th June, ADT Italy chose a different way to educate employees about the benefits of teamwork and how to work more efficiently as a team; they combined the traditional classroom activities with a game activity on a rugby field. The trainers observed how the teams tackled the contingencies and other typical actions in the game and showed them how trust, support and teamwork can strengthen a group. During the activity our Italian colleagues were taught techniques to improve weaknesses through teamwork in order to achieve ambitious goals. From the group discussions that took place both in the classroom and on the field, it emerged that the characteristics of an effective and productive working group should be: support, dialogue, transparency, positivity, giving and receiving feedback, expertise, recognition and simplification of processes. The activity was a fun way to learn how to increase efficiency in your team. Transferring the principles of rugby teamwork to the office will enable teams to develop a greater mutual understanding and improve the way they work together towards achieving common goals. ![]() ADT Spain Promote WGN in Female Talent BreakfastOn 1st June, ADT Spain HR attended a breakfast seminar on ‘Female Talent: Practices, Policies and Processes’ organised by Norman Broadbent, a leading global headhunting and consulting firm. The event was a great opportunity to promote Tyco Women’s Growth Network (WGN) and share Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) practices and activities with senior HR representatives from multinationals such as Deloitte, Grupo Santander, L’oreal, IBM and Coca Cola, as well as Madrid’s local government authorities. One of the topics discussed during the seminar was the loss of female talent in Spain, who seek job opportunities abroad after graduating university due to the economic downturn in the country. ADT got the chance to talk about WGN and also hear from our peers what D&I programmes they have in place. A good example is Deloitte’s female career development programme that takes into consideration the different stages of the female employee’s personal and professional life to ensure their career is moving at the right pace with professional growth as the ultimate goal. About WGN The Tyco Women’s Growth Network (WGN) is a new initiative, open to male and female employees from Tyco businesses across the globe, which aims to “champion the value, growth and advancement of women resulting in the acceleration of exceptional business performance.” The WGN enables Tyco to discuss issues that affect women in the workplace, and generally help the company create a stronger pool of female candidates that will allow us to promote and grow from within. The WGN organises training, talks, networking opportunities, workshops and other events that will help members develop their skills. In Continental Europe, the network has so far been launched in Spain and Benelux with Germany to follow soon. To find out how you can set up a network in our country or register, you can contact Daxa Patel, Director of Communications and Branding, ADT CE.
